Looking for Owners: 1 Dog and 131 Cats Rescued from inside the Nuclear Restricted Area

The Ministry of Environment and Fukushima Prefecture carried out an intensive rescue operation from September 7 through October 2, and managed to capture 1 dog and 131 cats from inside the restricted area around the Tepco Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. They are now all kept at a shelter inside the prefecture.

The Fukushima Animal Rescue website posted pictures and details of the rescued, and waiting for owners to locate them.

According to the Ministry of Environment, they’ve captured 439 dogs and 456 cats from inside the zone as of October 2, 2012. 142 dogs and 132 cats have managed to return to their owners, while 204 dogs and 53 cats found new homes.
