Good news. In the early morning of April 2, 2012, Mr. Matsumura’s permit to continue staying within the no-go zone in Fukushima was officially granted. He is the only one person who has been refusing to evacuate from the area so he could take care of the animals that were left inside the zone when the residents had to evacuate the area after the nuclear power plant accident in March 2011.
Tomiokia-Machi officials also decided NOT to cull any cows that belong to the people of the town but will try to keep them alive so when the residents who had to evacuate the area can return to their homes one day, cattle is there waiting for them.
The officials will start erecting a pen for the cattle soon, where they will be fed, probably by Mr. Matsumura until when the Japanese Government lifts a ban on Tomioka-Machi residents to return to their homes.
