One great news!
Tshirojima is now famous around the world for an island in Japan where cats are worshiped; they are taken care of by the fishermen. It’s also one area where Tsunami hit on March 11, 2011.
On June 10, 2011, a group of fishermen on the island opened a new website where people could send in donations as a way to help rebuild the fishing industry on the island as well as to help the lives of cats on the island get back on track…
They initially thought it would take at least three years to reach their goal of 100 million yen (1 unit is 10,000yen, approximately US$80. Their goal was US$0.8 mil.). And on Aug. 29, 2011, within less than 3 months after they called for help, they reached their goal already!
This is where you can see cats on Tashirojima Island before the disaster.
